Each evening in the main hall we will have a pop-up bar called Smokey Joe’s Café. Join us for a beverage and live entertainment.

The Jam Sessions will be hosted by musician and poet, Kent Evans. Listen to a labyrinth of lyrics, poetry, and prose with writers and musicians.

Presenting:

  • Athena Fenix is poet, publisher and radio DJ from Toluca.
  • Dennise Martínez escribir es su lenguaje más puro. La poesía le ha permitido sentir sin pudor y expresar lo que ronda en su mente. Escribe cuentos que la han llevado al país de las maravillas donde se ha permitido soñar. Es una lectora ávida y muy apasionada que ha encontrado en la literatura y la escritura, un espejo, una llave, un camino, su vocación.
  • Jeffrey Sipe is a journalist and writer who still dreams of being an F1 driver someday. He has covered the global independent film industry from Tokyo and New York City and his work has appeared in trades and broadsheets around the world.
  • Garrett Smith has never stopped working toward filling the world with more justice as an educator, political activist and poet. Garrett has published three books of poetry, and he loves to share his verses at literary events in Phoenix and in Mexico City.
  • Caye Garcia (Bass) is a founding member of Dust Industry, and sound engineer for the Cervantino festival, Guanajuato Symphony and University Radio.
  • Gabo Nieto (Vocals, Guitar, Synth) is a founding member of Dust Industry and creator of digital landscapes.
  • Eric Parker has taught creative writing and literature at The University of Alabama since 2010, was the longtime co-director of the Pure Products Reading Series.
  • Liah Alonso is a singer, songwriter, and social activist. Liah’s dynamic musical style is eclectic, and her shows focus on a theme that weaves songs and stories together to engage the audience in an emotional journey.

About Kent Evans

Kent Evans was a fixture on the spoken word and experimental art scene in NYC throughout the 90s having appeared at venues as diverse as CBGB’s, the Madison Square Garden Theater, and Nuyorican’s Poets Café. He fronted the Mexican Stoner Rock band Dust Industry and is a founding member of the Prog-Rock group Epic Fail 1893. He produced the video for Dr. Gypsy from Epic Fail’s debut album which won the the STIFF 2016 Best Music Video.

He is the author of Malas Ondas, a semi-autobiographical novel about self-destruction throughout Latin America and A Crash Course on the Anatomy of Robots and its Soundtrack which of which Kirkus Reviews says “a clear-eyed character study emerges, brimming with warmth and sympathy”.

His music video for Too Many Nights @ Nuyorican video won the Asians on Film 2015 Best Music Video, the Canada International Film Festival’s Rising Star Award, the Mexico International Film Festival Silver Palm, and was nominated at various other international festivals.
Both music videos debuted at VIP events for the Guanajuato International Film Festival.

Kent has appeared on NPR for shows including Nuestra Palabra, the Front Row, and Living Arts showcase; been reviewed and interviewed by Big Blend Magazine, the Cambridge Day, Martini Productions, and It’s Relevant; and have had creative non-fiction and opinion pieces appear in numerous national pop-culture and literary magazines and publications including YRB Magazine and Portland Book Review. Kent has been a participant in the San Miguel Writers Conference 2020, 2021 (virtually), 2023 and the first Literary Death Match of 2019.

In the era of the pandemic he has focused on online musical collaborations and voice acting including but not limited to narrating the feature length documentary “In the Belly of the Moon” and the San Miguel based narrative podcast “Flies in the Jar.”
