MAIN STAGE
TUE. OCT. 29 | 6:00–7:30 PM
Ivy Pochada
The Sport of Fiction
Sports and the arts are often relegated to distant ends of the creative spectrum, if indeed you are generous enough to consider athletes artists. In this lecture former professional athlete and award-winning author, Ivy Pochoda, will discuss the role sports have played in her creative life and how her writing influenced her squash career—and how a collaboration with Kobe Bryant helped her understand the symbiotic link between her two passions.
WED. OCT. 30 | 6:00–7:30 PM
Edoardo Ballerini
The Art of Audio Storytelling
Edoardo Ballerini is an actor, writer, and celebrated narrator of audiobooks. For his work in narration Edoardo was profiled by The New York Times, which called him “The Voice of God…” His numerous audiobook credits range from classics by Dante and Dostoyevsky to modern day bestsellers from Amor Towles and Karl Ove Knausgaard. On screen, his acting credits include The Sopranos and the recent A Murder at the End of the World. He is also the co-author, with Jess Walter, of The Audible Original “The Angel of Rome.”
THUR. OCT. 31 | 3:30–5:00 PM
Harrison Ball
The Spirituality of Ballet
Harrison Ball, a former NYC Ballet principal dancer, discusses the history of dance and its hidden relevance to culture today. Mr. Ball will explore ballet history and how it informed and influenced his dancing. Additionally, Mr. Ball will discuss his ascension to one of the world’s most prestigious institutions, the psychology of being a professional dancer, the nuances of ballet performance, and how the lessons of dance vigor are completely transferable to any art form.
